Through a partnership between the Seychelles Media Commission and the School Health Programme of the Ministry of Health, journalists covering health related issues have benefited from a Human Papillomavirus (HPV) information session.
The session took place at the SMC Secretariat and provided an opportunity for journalists to engage with staff of the School Health Programme, to better understand the virus, the dangers it can cause patients and the importance of being vaccinated.
The session was a real eye opener and it allowed journalists to ask the most pertinent questions for the purpose of equipping themselves before putting out pogrammes and articles to the wider public.
The SMC has identified information sessions as being one of the platforms that can be used to empower journalists and allow engagement with partners and stakeholders, one on one during focused sessions. The SMC seeks to organise more information sessions in future and encourages partners and stakeholders to come forward and bring forward topics that can be discussed and promoted to the local media.
